7
Q
Last 5 steps of insulin injection?
A
- Bunches the SQ tissue between thumb and index finger of nondominant hand
- Holds syringe like a dart between thumb and index fingerof dominant hand
- Insert needle at 90 degree angle while holding skin bunch
- Does not aspirate. Inject medication slowly but smoothly
- Quickly removes needle; apply pesure with alcohol swab; does not massage

Q
What are the 5 middle steps of Heprin injection
A
- select site
verbalize abdominal landmarks, unsing nrg terms
1” away from umbilicus
1” away from iliac crest
1” away from symphysis pubis - cleanse are with alcohol swab using circular motionfrom inside out; allow to dry
- hold swab between 4th & 5th finers of nondominant hand
- remove needle cap by pulling it straight off
- bunches the SQ tissue between thumb & index finger of dominant hand

First 5 steps of insulin injection
A
- calculate correct dose
- cleanse rubber stoppers of insulin vials with alcohol swab
- ratate N vial between palms before withdrawing; do not shake vial
- remove cap; inject air into cloudy (NPH), not letting needle come into contact with insulin
- inject air into clear; invert vial & withdraw clear insulin
VALIDATE AMOUNT WITH EVALUATOR
11
Q
5 middle steps of insulin injection
A
- insert needle into cloudy insulin, drawing up prescribed amount ; recap needle and VALIDATE AMOUNT WITH EVALUATOR
- administer according to SQ injection procedure, using nursing terminology
