What are the two types of necrotising fasciitis?
A
Type 1 - Most common, Post-surgery and diabetics. Caused by aerobes and anaerobes.
Type 2 - Streptococcus pyogenes

What are some RFs for Necrotising Fasciitis?
A
Skin: recent trauma, burns, soft tissue infections
Diabetes esp if treated with SGLT-2 inhibitors
IV Drug use
Immunosurpression

A
Perineum
Fournier’s gangrene

What are the presenting features of necrotising fasciitis?
A
Acute onset Pain, swelling, erythema Rapidly worsening cellulitis Tenderness Loss of light touch sensation \+/- Fever and Tachy

What is the management for necrotising fasciitis?
A
Urgent surgical debridement
Empirical IV ABs + AB e.g. Vacnomycin for MRSA cover
