Diffuse, unilateral (may be bilateral) pain around the cervical spine. May have mild unilateral radiating symptoms, but typically does not.
Prognosis: 2-3 days to 6 months

Non-specific neck pain “Cervicalgia”
Diffuse general neck pain, with occasional sharpness near CT junction, usually. Radiating symptoms into both arms. Decreased ROM in C-spine.
What condition is this?
Cervical stenosis w/myelopathy
Pain at base of neck or mid-cervical spine, may have radiating symptoms down the arms or midback, typically bilateral.
Prognosis: 2 days - 12 weeks.
What condition is this?
Cervical disc lesion.
Radiating pain stemming from the cervical spine into unilateral extremities. Dermatomal pattern present, relating to the segment where pathology is occurring.
Prognosis: Favorable. Days to weeks typically.
What condition is this?
Cervical radiculopathy
Any event that causes sudden cervical hyperextension and flexion. Headaches, nausea and vomiting, neck pain, midback pain, visual disturbances, hearing problems, and other neurological disturbances may be present.
Prognosis: Favorable. Weeks to years.

Cervical sprain/strain “Whiplash”
Headaches, nausea, dizziness, visual and hearing disturbances, tinnitus, neurological muscle weakness.
Prognosis: Favorable, typically surgery is warranted to resolve symptoms.
