What can be the cause of superficial swellings?
Sebaceous cyst, lipomas, neurofibromas
What can be the cause of midline swellings?
Thyroid, thyroglossal cyst, dermoid cyst
What can be the cause of anterior triangle swellings?
Lymph nodes, branchial cyst, salivary glands, carotid body tumour
What can be the cause of posterior triangle swellings?
Lymph nodes, cystic hygroma
How will a thyroglossal cyst likely present?
Lump in neck-arise in any part of thyroglossal tract. Moves with tongue, usually presents in teenage years
How will a branchial cyst present?
Persisting second branchial arch, upper part ant. triangle, teenage years. Appears as a half filled hot water bottle, can fistulate
What will FNA of a branchial cyst find?
Cholesterol crystals
How does a cystic hygroma present?
Majority in first year, large, pressure symptoms, lymph filled, transilluminate
What can be the cause of a swollen salivary gland?
Stone, pleomorphic adenoma, infection
