If a midline mass is present in the neck?
A
- observe it whilst the patient takes a sip of water
- thyroid masses and thyroglossal cysts will rise - observe it whilst the patient protrudes their tongue
- a thyroglossal cysts will rise and thyroid masses will not

Palpation of lymoh nodes?
A
- submandibular and submental
- tonsillar and parotid
- pre auricular and post auricular
- superficial cervical and supraclavicular
- posterior cervical and occipital

Palpation of thyroid gland?
A
- feel for symmetrical elevation of the thyroid glad as the patient swallows some water
- ask patient to protrude their tongue whilst you palpate the midline mass
- a thyroglossal cyst will ride
