Neck and Forelimb Flashcards
Nuchal Ligament
Supports head and prevents excessive ventroflexion
O: 1st three thoracic spinous processes
I: Dorsal spinous process of C2
Supraspinatus
Extend and stabilize joint
O: Supraspinous fossa
I: Greater tubercle, anterior to the infraspinatus
Infraspinatus
Extend or flex the joint, abduct shoulder, rotate arm laterally, stabilize the joint
O: Infraspinous fossa
I: Lateral greater tubercle between Supraspinatus and Teres Minor tendons
Teres Minor
Flex shoulder and externally rotate arm
O: Distal 1/3 of caudal border of scapula
I: Greater tubercle, caudal to Infraspinatus tendon
Deltoideus (2 heads)
Flex shoulder
O: Spine of scapula (spinous head) and Acromion (acromial head)
I: Deltoid tuberosity of humerus
Teres Major
Flex shoulder, rotate arm medially
O: Caudal angle and border of scapula
I: Teres Major tuberosity of humerus (prox and med humerus)
Subscapularis
Addict and extend shoulder, during flexion; aids in stabilizing joint; tendon functions as a medial collateral ligament
O: Subscapular fossa
I: Minor tubercle of humerus via short tendon
Anconeus
Extend elbow
O: Distal-lateral humerus, just proximal to elbow
I: Lateral surface of prox 1/8 of Ulna
N: Radial nerve
Triceps Brachii - Medial Head
Extend elbow
O: Medial surface of humerus
I: Olecranon
N: Radial nerve
Triceps Brachii - Accessory Head
Extend elbow
O: Neck of humerus
I: Olecranon
N: Radial nerve
Triceps Brachii - Lateral Head
Extend elbow
O: Proximal lateral humerus
I: Olecranon
N: Radial nerve
Triceps Brachii - Long Head
Extend elbow and flex shoulder
O: Caudal border of scapula
I: Olecranon
N: Radial nerve
Biceps Brachii
Flex elbow and extend shoulder
O: Supraglenoid tubercle of scapula
I: Ulna and Radius, medially, just distal to elbow
Extensor Carpi Radialis
Extend carpus
O: Lateral epicondyle of humerus
I: Proximal ends of MC 2 and 3
N: Radial nerve
Common Digital Extensor
Extends joints of the four digits and carpus
O: Lateral epicondyle of humerus
I: Extensor processes of distal phalanges of digits 2-5
N: Radial nerve
