A
- begin at puberty and are established in early adult life
- uncovertebral clefts appear by 12 years and fine fissures extend across the discs of young adults
- 35-40 the nucleus and posterior annulus are usually completely fissured
- late middle and old age, disc thinning and disc reabsorbsion common
- other spinal regions, age related changes occur in lat middle life or old age
