What are traffic signals, signs, and pavement markings for?
Traffic control to provide a smooth orderly flow of traffic
What is a traffic signal used for?
Control moving traffic and pedestrians at some intersections and mid-block crosswalks
What does a circle green signal mean?
It means go but in left turns provide with caution to oncoming traffic
What does the yellow signal mean?
It means caution and indicates the signal is about to turn red
What does the red circle sign mean?
It means stop, unless there is a signal don’t turn on red for a right turn
What does a green turn signal entail?
Allowed to turn red with no conflicting traffic
What does a red turn signal entail?
Traffic must stop
What does a yellow turn signal entail?
it indicates the green turn signal is about to turn to a regular green signal, circular red signal, or red arrow signal
What should you do if you approach an intersection where the light has malfunctioned?
proceed as if it is controlled by a stop sign
What is a flashing red signal?
It has the same meaning as a stop sign, stop and don’t proceed
What does a solid red arrow signal mean?
No turns are allowed
What does a solid yellow arrow mean?
Prepare to stop
What does a flashing yellow arrow mean?
Left turns are allowed but they must yield to oncoming traffic.
What does a solid green arrow mean?
Left turns are allowed without oncoming traffic and pedestrians.
What is a ramp meter signal?
control traffic entering a freeway
What does the red ramp meter traffic signal mean?
Stop
What does a green ramp meter signal mean?
Proceed to ramp and merge to the freeway
What are hybrid beacons used for?
Control traffic at mid-block crosswalks and entrances to emergency response facilities
What happens when you activate a hybrid beacon?
The beacon will flash yellow for a few seconds and steady yellow and red for a few more seconds to allow vehicles to stop. The beacons will remain steady red while pedestrians and emergency vehicles to begin exiting facility
What are the three types of traffic signs?
Regulatory signs, Warning signs, and Guide/ Informational signs
What must you do at a yield sign?
Slow down and yield right of way
What a guide/ informational signs?
It gives directions, routes, distances, and indicates services
What are warning signs?
They indicate things further ahead that may make you pay attention to on the road to prevent accidents
What do yellow pavement markings mean?
Separate travel lanes moving in opposite directions
