Less than 2.6 mmol/L after 12 hours of age
May be 1.8 mmol/L immediately after birth

- jitteriness
- low temp
- seizure
- lethargy
- poor suck
- sweating
- resp difficultly
- poor muscle tone

A
- place skin to skin to encourage breastfeeding
- early, frequent feedings are important

A
Response to inflammation and infections slow because of immaturity of the immune system

A
- dont come to work sick
- routine precautions
- hand hygiene
- cleansing and replacing equipment
- proper disposal of soiled diapers and linen
