nazi rise Flashcards
TOV K1
the consequences that the weimar government endured on behalf of signing the treaty were dire. weimar opponents began calling the government the ‘november criminals’, accusing them of stabbing germans in the back.
TOV K2
the military clause of the treaty stated the Germanys army was to be reduced to 100,000 men, no tanks, submarines or planes and 6 battleships.
TOV A+
many other parties including the KPD also promised to abolish the treaty which could not explain only the nazis rise in popularity.
weaknesses of weimar K1
from the start the weimar republic had to overcome a large amount of hostility. as democratic reforms were solely introduced in a cynical attempt to get in better terms with allies, the weimar republic was lacking in popular support.
weaknesses of weimar K2
a new system was implemented - proportional representation. proportional representation is the system in which seats in parliament should be in proportion to the votes cast. this democratic system was weak and allowed extremist parties to gain power in the reich.
weaknesses of weimar A+
the weimar republic government still lasted 14 years through difficult economic times and was a lot stronger than many people believed.
appeal of hitler K1
the nazis set up a film unit in 1931 and started producing documentaries to highlight the benefits of nazism. hitler developed and alliance with alfred hugenberg - a cinema tycoon - who agreed to show nazi films before the main feature.
appeal of hitler K2
hitler hired josef goebbels as his main propagandist. goebbels studied american advertising techniques and applied them to “sell” nazism.
appeal of hitler A+
the nazi party still never gained a majority vote and their propaganda while effective was easy to ignore.
