Citizens weren’t treated as equal, individuals could be arrested without a trial

What was the Gestapo?
A secret police originally set up in Prussia, Nazi’s extended countrywide
The Gestapo’s reputation?
The idea that they were all knowing and everywhere
How many Gestapo members were there in reality?
20,000 mostly office based workers
How did the Gestapo rely on the public?
They received information from citizens denouncing each other (snitching) Block leaders were established to report suspicions
Where the Gestapo effective?
Yes, even though heavily reliant on public terror, political debate and criticism was stifled, people adjusted their behavior
How did Hitler change the justice system?
He merged different offices and made the Front of German Law in 1933. Special Courts were set up in 1933 (Dualism)
How corrupt was the People’s Court?
From 1934-39 3400 people tried, the majority were former communists and socialists
How was the Police State made to look as helpful to the public?
They presented themselves as protectors against ethnic minorities
