Q

GPS constellation

A

24 satellites

for a 3d position, 4 variables must be solved:

  1. latitude
  2. longitude
  3. altitude
  4. time

accurate within 6 meters horizontally, 8 meters vertically 95% of the time. or 25 ft

Q

vor range calculation

A

square root of the hight of the receiver x 1.23
+
square root of the hight of the transmitter x 1.23

example

vor located at 1500 ft, aircraft at 4500 ft
√ 1500x1.23 + √4500x1.23= 130
