- Be in the proper lane on the on-ramp
- Be at or near the speed of traffic
- Merge into a space large enough for vehicle to join the lane
- Make sure you can stop safely by leaving three second of space between you and the vehicle in front of you
- Do not cross any solid lines when merging

To exit a highway safely : (5)
- Know exit. Signal &Check BS. Signal 5 sec. Safe S to E. No cross SL.

- Know your exit and be aware of when it is approaching
- If you plan to change lanes, signal and look over your shoulder to check your blind spots
- When in the proper lane, signal five seconds (400 ft) before you exit
- Make sure you are at a safe speed to exit
- Do not cross over any solid lines when exiting

- A full block on the highway (about 300 ft)

- Drive into the passing lane
- Speed up to pass the vehicle
