Her prayer of thanks is known as Tefillat Chana
It is 10 pesukim (sentences)
Main idea = goodness + power of HaShem
Main Ideas of Tefillat Chana
- Everything in this world is from HaShem
- HaShem’s power to do anything, even change nature
3.HaShem is so kind, gives us good when we might not deserve it
Pasuk Alef:
“My heart rejoices in HaShem and His salvation”
→ hinting that through Tefillah (prayer)
we can call on HaShem to save us
Pasuk bet:
“There is no rock like HaShem”
→ So powerful that He could change nature
(example Chana was old but still gave birth to Shmuel)
→ HaShem is strong and can give support to all of us
Pasuk Bet (con’t):
The word used for “rock” can also mean artist/sculptor
→ No matter how realistic a drawing/sculpture is
no one can create life (TRUE ART) like HaShem
Pasuk Gimmel:
Successful people shouldn’t be haughty
Because HaShem can reverse their success in an instant
“Man plans, G-d laughs”

קֶ֥שֶׁת גִּבֹּרִ֖ים חַתִּ֑ים וְנִכְשָׁלִ֖ים אָ֥זְרוּ חָֽיִל= The bows of the mighty are broken and those who stumble are given strength”

Pasuk ה: (Hay = 5)
עַד־עֲקָרָה֙ יָלְדָ֣ה שִׁ בְעָ֔ה וְרַבַּ֥ת בָּנִ֖ים אֻמְלָֽלָה =“The woman who couldn’t have children now has 7, and the woman who had many children has lost them all”

If peninah had good intentions why was she judged so harshly
Pasuk ו: (Vav = 6)

Again! A warning not to be haughty!
Pasuk ח: (Chet = 8)
This Pasuk continues same idea as Pasuk 7
Not only can He make the poor rich, he can also raise their reputation
What good is money without a good reputation?
“ לַֽיהֹוָה֙ מְצֻ֣קֵי אֶ֔רֶץ וַיָּ֥שֶׁת עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם תֵּבֵֽל”

What is Yirat Shamayim?
Yirat Shamayim doesn’t mean being
scared of HaShem, it means acting in a way that shows you believe He is right next to you
Life lesson
THOSE WHO TRY THEIR BEST TO DO GOOD, TO HELP OTHERS, TO GROW THEIR CHARACTER WILL EXPERIENCE HASHGACHA PRATIS
Concept of Hashgacha Pratis
Hashgacha Pratis translates to “Divine Providence”
This means that HaShem makes things work out in miraculous ways.
It means to clearly see HaShem’s hand in your life.
Pasuk ט: (Tet = 9)
כִּֽי־לֹ֥א בְכֹ֖חַ יִגְבַּר־אִֽישׁ - “Humans will not win with only strength”
We need Hashem on our side if want to achieve greatness
You’re not meant to
do it all on your own
Chana again tells us that HaShem controls everything
Anything that happens is from Him
You’re not meant to
do it all on your own
You’re not meant to
do it all on your own
Chana again tells us that HaShem controls everything
Anything that happens is from Him

Protect Shmuel & the Jews
Destroy their enemies
Keep away wicked people (רְשָׁעִים)

Remember! Mashiach will be David’s descendant
Shmuel serves Hashem
How could שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל (Shmuel) serve Hashem if he was so young and not a Cohen?
He helped עֵלִ֥י הַכֹּהֵֽן (Eli HaCohen) with errands and chores.
Life Lesson: Rashi says helping a Jewish leader or Torah scholar is like you’re serving HaShem
Eli Blesses Chana
Elkana asked Eli to bless them with more kids
Chana had 5 more kids - 3 sons, 2 daughters
Eli’s sons
Names = Chofni & Pinchas
“They didn’t know HaShem”
Did they really not know?
No. They knew Hashem and they knew what was expected of them but they chose not to listen.
They didn’t have Yirat Shamayim!!
What did they do wrong?
They cheated and took more of the meat from Korbanot than they were allowed to
Impact of their actions:
THIS MADE THE JEWS NOT WANT TO GO TO THE MISHKAN OR FOLLOW HASHEM!!
