What is Meniere’s disease?
Condition of the inner ear that causes sudden feeling of the room spinning around you (vertigo) and ringing noise (tinnitus).
Which antiemetics are NOT effective in motion sickness
Domperidone
Metoclopramide
5HT2 receptor antagonists
Phenothiazines (except promethazine)
Which antiemetics act on the chemo-receptor trigger zone?
Domperidone
Chlorpromazine
Prochlorperazine
Trifluoperazine
How does metoclopramide work?
Acts directly on gastric smooth muscles stimulating gastric emptying.
Why may domperidone be preferred over metoclopramide and phenothiazides?
Less likely to cause central effects such as sedation and dystonic reactions.
Does not readily cross BBB
What is the minimum age for domperidone use?
12 yrs
