Phosphorated Carbohydrates (Antiemetic) Emetrol
Prevention
Adult and Children ≥12 y of age, 15-30 mL po q15min until symptom resolves to max of 5 doses over 1 h;
Children 2-12 y of age, 5-10 mL po q15min until symptom resolves to max of 5 doses over 1 h
Do not dilute this product before administration, or drink fluids immediately before or after administration. Oral rehydration therapy for mild, uncomplicated nausea should be attempted after nausea resolves. Do not take for >1 h. Do not take >5 doses. Chilling prior to administration may improve taste and palatability.
ADR: Hyperglycemia, constipation, nausea
Meclizine (Motion Sickness) Dramamine Less Drowsy , Bonine
Adults and Children ≥12 y of age, 25-50 mg po 1 h before departure, may repeat q24h prn (max 50 mg/24 h)
May cause drowsiness; avoid driving and operating machinery until the effects of meclizine are known. Avoid alcohol and other CNS depressants.
ADR: *Sedation, headache, *dry mouth, fatigue, and nausea
Dimenhydrinate (Motion Sickness) Dramamine Original
Adults and Children ≥12 y: 50-100 mg po 30 min before departure, may repeat q4-6h prn, to max of 400 mg/d;
Children 6-12 y of age: 25-50 mg po 30 min before departure, may repeat q6-8h prn, to max of 150 mg/d;
Children 2-6 y of age: 12.5-25 mg po 30 min before departure, may repeat q6-8h prn, to max of 75 mg/d
May cause drowsiness; avoid driving and operating machinery. Avoid alcohol and other CNS depressants.
ADR: Dizziness, *drowsiness, nervousness, restlessness, *dry mouth
