Loperamide: Imodium:antidiarrheal
Acute diarrhea, traveler’s diarrhea:
Adult and Children ≥12 y of age: 4 mg po after first loose stool, then 2 mg po after each subsequent loose stool (max 16 mg/d);
Children 8-12 y of age and >30 kg: 2 mg po tid for first 24 h then 0.1 mg/kg/dose after each loose stool (max 6 mg/d);
Children 6-8 y of age and 20-30 kg: 2 mg po bid for first 24 h then 0.1 mg/kg/dose after each loose stool (max 4 mg/d);
Children 2-5 y of age and 13-20 kg: 1 mg po tid for first 24 h then 0.1 mg/kg/dose after each loose stool (max 3 mg/d)
Chronic diarrhea: Adults, follow acute diarrhea dose, titrate down to lowest effective dose, generally 4-8 mg po daily in divided doses
Dizziness, constipation, cramping, nausea
bismuth subsalicylate: Pepto-Bismol: Antidiarrhea
Diarrhea, heartburn, nausea: Adult and children ≥12 y of age, 525 mg every 30 min to 1 h as needed to max of 8 doses/24 h
Constipation, discoloration of the tongue (darkening), grayish black stools
