what is the nature view?
view that behaviour is a PRODUCT of INNATE bio and genetic factors. Descartes argued a human characteristics are innate.
Psychological factors like intelligence and personality are determined by bio factors just like physical characteristics ike eye colour.
Links to research: Bowlby and his idea that children come into the world bio programmed to form attachments to help them survive.
What is the nurture view?
Refers to the INFLUENCE of experience and environment.
empiricists argue that the mind is blank at birth and then SHAPED by the environment.
Link: behavioural psychologists explaining attachment in terms of UCS etc.
Whats the nature-nurture debate?
seeks to answer the question of whether our behaviour is more influenced by nature or nurture. It’s a combination of both.
