Nature Flashcards
What is nature the view?
That all our behaviour is determined by our biology like genetics
What is the main assumption of the approach?
That any particular behaviour has evolved because of its survival value
What do evolutionary explanations do?
Exemplify the nature approach
Bowlby’s explanation of attachment?
Doesn’t ignore influence of environment - infants become strongly attached to caregiver who responds sensitively to needs
Problem of trans generational effect?
Behaviour which appears to be determined by nature may be determined by nurture
What did Bowlby suggest?
Attachment behaviours are displayed because they ensure that survival of an infant and the repeating of parents genes
What does the experience of sensitive caregiving lead to?
A child to develop expectations that others will be equally sensitive, so they tend to form adult relationships that are trusting
