What does it propose?
That all behaviour is determined and thus predictable
What is environmental determinism?
The idea that our behaviour is caused by some sort of outside influence
What did Skinner 1971 argue?
That freedom is an illusion and we may think we have free will but the probability of any behaviour occurring is determined by past experiences
What is biological determinism?
Our biological systems like the nervous system governs our behaviour
What is hard determinism?
Sees free will as an illusion and believes that every event and action has a cause
What is soft determinism?
People do have a choice but that choice is restrained by external factors
How is determinism scientific?
It allows cause and effect relationships to be established
What does determinism not account for?
Individual differences as it creates general laws of behaviour
What does hard determinism suggest about criminals?
That they cant be held responsible for their actions
What is psychic determinism?
Childhood experiences and unconscious motivations governed behaviour
