Natural selection Flashcards
What’s natural selection?
It’s the process that gives organisms that are better adapted to their environment a higher chance to survive and pass on their alleles.
Variation has a key role EVOLUTION and natural selection
True
Example: Over-population of offspring
Sockeye salmon and poppy plants produce many eggs and seeds respectively to ensure that enough offspring make it to the early stages of life
What’[s the competition for resources?
It’s a competition among the organisms that survive the early stages of life which is fiercest between individuals of the same species.
How does evolution and natural selection work?
When there’s a change in the environment organisms with the corresponding adaptive feature are at an advantage in the competition for resouces and have a higher chance of passing on their alleles.
