Natural logarithms and exponentials Flashcards
What are natural logarithms ?
Logs with a base of e.
What is 1ne?
1.
If you have e and want e, you should multiply it by 1.
How would you solve e^1-3x=5
Take the natural log of both sides. 1n e^1-3x=1n5 (1-3X) times 1ne=1n5 (1ne is 1 so) 1-3x=1n5 solve the rest as you would.
How would you solve 1n(2x+1)=3
This means you want 2x+1 and you need 3 so
2x+1=e^3
Solve as you would normally.
What is 1n(e^x)
x
what is e^1nx?
x
What is 1n(1)?
How long do you have to wait to get 1 times more the original amount that you already have?
No time at all, so it is 0.
What would 1n(0.5) be?
How long would you have to wait for the amount you have to get 0.5 times bigger?
It will have to be negative time so it would be -1n(2)
What is 1n(-x)?
It is impossible as you can’t have a negative amount of something.
1np= x.
If you knew x, how would you find p?
e^x
