Natural Hazards Flashcards
What factors influence the vulnerability of countries to natural hazards:
High population density - more people are affected by the hazard in the area and during Earthquakes there is a high risk of building collapse meaning a larger death rate
Location - there is a higher risk of earthquakes near plate boundaries and higehr risk of TRS near water and hot areas
Why do people still live in areas near hazards?
Volcanoes - There is fertile soil which means farmers have higher crop yields. There is cheaper land near volcanoes so people may not be able to afford to leave.
Tourism - There are more job opportunities near hazards due to tourism and also these areas are very tropical and remote providing very beautiful sites
