Natural Energy Resources Flashcards
What are Energy Resources?
Energy resources are resources that can produce heat, make electricity or move objects depending on what they are used for. Our energy resources are used mainly for
Domestic purpose: home requires heat and light
Transport: cars trucks planes trains etc. need energy sources to run.
Industry and business: factories and businesses need light, heat and power to run their machines offices etc.
What is non-renewable energy?
Non-renewable can be used only once and will run out eventually also called βfiniteβ energy
Eg. Oil, gas, coal, peat
Fossil fuels made from the compressed remains of dead organisms
What is renewable energy?
Renewable energy can be used repeatedly and will not run out
Eg. Solar power, wind energy, tidal energy, geothermal energy, biomass energy and hydroelectricity
NON RENEWABLE ENERGY
THE PROBLEM
- increased consumption (high demand of fossil fuels)
- the supply (run out within the next 70 years)
-carbon imbalance (burning fossil fuels rices CO2 levels)
THE IMPACTS
-rising temperature (living organisms are able to adapt to survive)
-air pollution (impacts the entire planet)
-environmental disasters (destruct natural habitats)
RENEWABLE ENERGY
THE SOLUTION
-solar energy
-wind farms
-tidal energy
THE BENEFITS
-provide a sustainable form of energy production
-save lives and improve the health of land and sea creatures
-reduce costs for energy consumers and producers
-increase technology manufacturing and installation jobs
