-Bismark believed the best way to unify Germany was through “Blood and Iron” (warfare and the military)

-Prussia thought by going to war with France they would gain political unity from the Catholic states who would join Germany
-The southern Catholic states were frightened by both Germany and France so Prussia played on these fears and worked with them to defeat France and win their trust.

-Bismark wasn’t very popular among the working citizens due to poor living conditions.
