-coordinate info coming into White House from state dep, defence dep, CIA, join CoS + American ambassadors around the world

-National Security Advisor - NSA
How did Nixon change the way the NSC worked?
-decided run foreign policy from WH
-appointed Kissinger as NSA + cut out state deps role
Why did Nixon do this?
-distrustful of state dep - saw as too liberal + establishment orientated
What did this lead to?
-politicised + enhanced role of NSC
-made problems for subsequent pres’s

What was the significance of James Jones?
-involved in Bin Laden assassination which was controversial

-but had to resign from consideration after embroiled in Benghazi affair - speech Florida 2016 NS workforce ‘for white, male + stale’

-US ambassador to Libya killed in attack on American diplomatic mission in Benghazi
