Q

explain how transformers reduce energy loss in cables

A
  • electricity passes through a step-up transformer which increases the potential difference to several hundred thousand volts
  • less energy is lost in the power cables when the potential difference is very high
  • the energy is then passed through high voltage wires
  • electricity passes through a step down transformers which reduce the potential difference to 230 volts
  • this is then sent into homes
