What does each governing body do?
Provide coaches who are able to supply coaching for their particular sport
What do many NGBs provide?
Specific training at various levels for coaches of their sport. There are usually several levels and coaches can start at a fairly basic point and progress through to higher ones
How might a coach change who they teach?
They could start off working with small groups, often beginners, at a local level and progress right up to working with elite performers at national and international level
What sport is a good example of a coaching pathway?
Netball
What does the coaching pathway of netball have?
Three levels of coaching awards that are linked to the United Kingdom Coaching Certificate (UKCC)
What is Sports Coach UK?
An organization formed as a charity to help to recruit, develop and retain coaches
Who does Sports Coach UK currently support?
46 NGBs and 49 county sports partnerships
Why does Sport Coach UK support NGBs and sport partnerships?
To help them improve their coaching systems, and to provide research and good practice that benefits coaching
What are the national governing bodies (NGBs) of sport?
Independent organizations that lead the development and delivery of their sport nationally and locally
What is each NGB responsible for?
Setting and interpreting the rules of their particular sport
What do the NGB’s responsibilities link to?
This logically links with both training and providing officials
What are the different levels of officials?
Some sports have both minor and major officials who may have very different roles
What are the officials doing in football?
There are two assistant referees (who officiate particularly on the sidelines) and the referee, who is in sole charge
How can someone become a referee in football?
They have to be over 14 years of age and undertake a Basic Referees Course with their local county FA
What does it lead on to after training to be a referee in football?
Being a referee at grassroots level, semi professional level, up to the Football League, the Premiership and then even to international level
