M Narendra Modi unveils logo, theme and website of India‘s G20 Presidency
The Indian Prime Minister launched the logo, theme and website for the Indian G-20 Presidency. The G20
Logo draws inspiration from the vibrant colours of India‘s national flag ‗lotus‘ – saffron, white and green,
and blue. It juxtaposes planet Earth with the lotus, India‘s national flower lotus that reflects growth amid
challenges. The Earth reflects India‘s pro-planet approach to life, one in perfect harmony with nature. Below the
G20 logo is ―Bharat‖, written in the Devanagari script. The seven petals of the lotus in the logo are also
significant. They represent the seven continents. Seven is also the number of notes in the universal language of
music. In music, when the seven notes come together, they create a perfect harmony.
The theme of India‘s G20 Presidency – ‗Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam‘ or ―One Earth One Family One
Future‖ - is drawn from the ancient Sanskrit text of the Maha Upanishad. Essentially, the theme affirms the
value of all life – human, animal, plant, and microorganisms – and their interconnectedness on the planet Earth
and in the wider universe.
The theme also spotlights LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), with its associated, environmentally sustainable
and responsible choices, both at the level of individual lifestyles as well as national development, leading to
globally transformative actions resulting in a cleaner, greener and bluer future. For India, the G20 Presidency
also marks the beginning of ―Amritkaal‖, the 25-year period beginning from the 75th anniversary of its
independence on 15 August 2022, leading up to the centenary of its independence

Pi Approximation Day
Pi Approximation Day is celebrated every year on July 22. The date was chosen because it is written as 22/7
in day/month format, which is a common approximation of the mathematical constant pi (π). (pi). It is observed
by mathematics enthusiasts around the world.
The symbol ―π‖ was first used in 1706 by Welsh mathematician William Jones. This symbol was later
popularised by Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler in the 18th century, and it is now used universally to denote
this important mathematical constant.
National Broadcasting Day
National Broadcasting Day in India is marked on July 23 as symbolic of the Radio Club of Bombay
(established by some businessmen) making the first-ever broadcast in the country in June 1923. The
broadcast was followed by the setting up of the Calcutta Radio Club five months later.
The following year, CNO was split up into two divisions, the News Services Division (NSD) and the External
Services Division (ESD). In 1956 the name AKASHVANI was adopted for the National Broadcaster. The
Vividh Bharati Service was launched in 1957 with popular film music as its main component. Since 1927, Radio
has been an important part of people‘s life in the country.
World Hepatitis Day
World Hepatitis Day, 28 July, is an opportunity to step up national and international efforts on hepatitis,
encourage actions and engagement by individuals, partners and the public and highlight the need for a greater
global response as outlined in the WHO‘s Global hepatitis report of 2017.
The date of 28 July was chosen because it is the birthday of Nobel-prize winning scientist Dr Baruch
Blumberg, who discovered hepatitis B virus (HBV) and developed a diagnostic test and vaccine for the
virus. Low coverage of testing and treatment is the most important gap to be addressed in order to achieve the
global elimination goals by 2030. The theme for World Hepatitis Day 2023 is “One life, one liver,” focusing
on creating awareness about viral hepatitis.
Global Tiger Day
Global Tiger Day, often called International Tiger Day, is an annual celebration to raise awareness for
tiger conservation, held annually on 29 July. It was created in 2010 at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit in

specific theme with the common goal to raise awareness about tiger extinction and the need to save them.
World Day against Trafficking in Persons
July 30th marks the World Day against Trafficking in Persons (WDATIP). A day set aside to raise awareness
of the plight of human trafficking victims and to promote and protect their rights. Trafficking in Persons (TIP) is a
crime and grave human rights violation of enormous scale, which is prevalent in situations of vulnerability.
The theme of World Day against Trafficking in Persons 2023 is ‘Reach every victim of trafficking, leave no
one behind’.
International Day of Friendship
World Friendship Day, also known as the International Day of Friendship, is observed annually on July 30.
While most nations commemorate this unique day on July 30, a few others, like India, Malaysia, the United
States, and Bangladesh, chose to celebrate it on the first Sunday of August, which this year falls on August 6.
The theme for International Friendship Day 2023 is ‗Sharing the human spirit through friendship.‘ It
emphasises the significance of incorporating youths as potential leaders in social endeavours that foster
international understanding and tolerance for different cultural backgrounds.
