Rohini Nayyar Prize for Outstanding Contribution to Rural Development. Sangtam, was presented with cash
prize of Rs 10 lakh, a citation, and trophy at a ceremony.
 The prize has been instituted in memory of Rohini Nayyar, renowned economist who worked with the
Planning Commission. She died last year. The Nayyar Foundation for Social and Economic Purpose, a
foundation set up by her family, will give away the annual prize to those under 40 for their contribution to
rural development. Nayyar‘s husband, Deepak Nayyar, emeritus professor of Economics, JNU, is one of the
directors of the foundation, along with Dhiraj Nayyar, director, economics and policy, Vedanta Resources.

World Book and Copyright Day
 For World Book and Copyright Day on—– Indigenous Languages will be the message UNESCO will
focus on. Of the almost 7,000 existing languages – many of which are fast disappearing – the majority are spoken
by indigenous peoples who represent the greater part of the world‘s cultural diversity. The theme for World
Book Day 2023 is ‗Indigenous Languages. ‗ It focuses on promoting the diversity in native languages of a
country.
UN English Language Day
 English Language Day at the UN is celebrated on 23 April, the date traditionally observed as both the birthday
and date of death of William Shakespeare. As well as being the most famous playwright, who wrote in English,
Shakespeare also had a huge impact on modern-day English.
 The UN has previously declared the themes ―English as a Global Language‖ and ―English and Creativity‖ for
this day, which highlight the language‘s impact on international culture, education, and communication,
respectively.
International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace, 24 April
 The International Day of Multilateralism and Diplomacy for Peace is celebrated annually on———-l. It
seeks to reaffirm the UN Charter and its principles of resolving disputes among countries through peaceful
means. The United Nations was established for the sole purpose of maintaining international peace and security,
and fostering friendly relations among nations.
