What is a nasal fracture?
A
A fracture of one of the paired nasal bones, usually distal, where bone is thinnest.

Visual deformity Brusing Oedema Epistaxis Septal haematoma

When is imaging done?
A
Imaging only indicated if facial fractures are suspected

Management if:
No deformity
If obvious deformity
More extensive injuries
Septal haematoma
A
Conservative
Closed reduction- usually done within 10 days by ENT
Open reduction (open septorhinoplasty)
Urgent incision and drainage by ENT to prevent necrosis and saddle nose deformity

How do foreign bodies present?
Rx - 2
A
Purulent unilateral discharge
Ask the child to blow their nose
Do a parental kiss - parent blows through mouth while occluding the other nostril.
