What is an allophone?
A group of speech sounds which are minimalistically linguistically contrastive to other phonemes
What is a diacritic?
A phonetic symbol to show a difference in pronunciation.
What is the diacritic symbol used for [ṽ] ?
Nasalisation
What diacritic related speech sound quality should be looked out for?
Nasalisation
Nasal cavity should be cut off but isn’t - velum isn’t working properly.
Sudden onset in adults - can indicate neurological changes.
Children - can indicate DVD or cleft velum.

Dentalisation
Tongue moves forward - between an alveolar and dental.

An additional feature of pronunciation.
First POA is hit and then a second POA is hit.

What are the rules of the dark and clear ‘l’?
Clear ‘l’ is used before vowels
Dark ‘l’ is used before a consonant or a pause (or at the an end of a word in a sentence)
