What is a clause?
Noun phrase plus a verb.
Can contain complements, subjects and adverbials.
What is a declarative sentence?
A simple statement that is used to provide information about something or state a fact.
E.g. I love my dog
What is an interrogative sentence?
Sentences that ask a question, typically to request information.
E.g. What is your name?
What is an exclamatory sentence?
Conveys a strong emotion and ends with an exclamation mark.
E.g. What a nice day!
What is an imperative sentence?
A sentence that expresses a direct command, request, invitations, warning, or instruction.
It does not contain a subject.
E.g. Bring me a glass of water.
What is a phrase?
A collection of words that behave like a part of speech.
What is a noun phrase?
A group of words that can be replaced with a pronoun.
E.g. My brother Steve
What is an adverbial phrase?
A group of words that function as an adverb.
E.g. in the classroom
What is the difference between an adverbial clause and an adverbial phrase?
An adverbial phrase does not contain a subject or a verb.
