States can ensure the survival by making sure no other state has the military power to dominate others. When threatened, states balance by trading alliances to ensure a strong state cannot over take a weak neighbour
1830 Revolutions
After the Congress of Vienna and the Napoleonic wars France was still a constitutional monarchy under Louis XVIII
Charles X began his reign in 1824 ~ censored press, restored the clergies position in school in politics broke up legislat gave money to Nobles who had lost their lands and rights
July 26th 1830 ~revolution started~ fighting started 27th - 29th ~ Charles X abdicated & fled to England soon after
This triggered revolts in other places
Belgium claimed independence
Britain experienced liberal reforms including extending vote & secret ballot
1848 Revolution
French people gain more citizen rights - which generated similar revolte in other states
Italy ~ Austrians driven out of Northern Italy - more liberal reforms
Germany ~ more liberal constitutions - national parliament
Hapsburg Empire ~ serfdom abolished
Prussia ~ Weak constitutional monarchy
France ~ established a republic
France wasn’t very organized, they were taken over by ANOTHER dictator - Napoleon III France became the second Empire

The Kingdom of Italy was created in 1860 when Garibaldi met with Emmanuel II and agreed to join forces
