Nage 3 Flashcards
Name 3 difference between DNA and RNA
RNA has ribose sugar DNA has deoxyribose sugar
In RNA, thymine is replaced with Uracil
RNA is single stranded and DNA is double stranded
Explain what is meant by transcription, hat it is crucial for and which enzyme it requires
Transcription is the production of mRNA from DNA and it is crucial for protein synthesis. It uses the enzymes RNA polymerase
List the different RNA polymerase and what they are responsible for
RNA Polymerase 1 - rRNA
RNA polymerase 2 - mRNA
RNA polymerase 3 - snRNA
Explain what is meant by ‘gene promoter’
This is a sequence of DNA usually found 40 bp before a gene here where transcription factors can bind onto and increase or decrease the chances of transcribing the gene
What is the gene promoter for RNA polymerase 2 and what complex does it form
The gene promoter is TATA and it binds onto transcription factors 2 D A B, then RNA polymerase 2, then F J E H forming the basal complex
