Who is NAB?
The National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards, or NAB as it is commonly known, is a voluntary, non-profit organization made up of members of state boards or agencies/jurisdictions that are responsible for the licensing of Nursing Home (NHA), Resident Care/Assisted Living (RCAL), and/or Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Administrators.
What does NHA stand for and what does it entail?
Nursing Home Administration
Nursing homes are federally regulated, which means I should be familiar with the CMS Requirements of Participation for Long Term Care Facilities.
What does RCAL stand for and what does it entail?
Resident Care Assisted Living
These things are more state specific.
What does HCBS stand for?
Home and Community Based Services
Home health care, hospice, meal services, etc.
What are the different sections of the NAB exam?
CORE
NHA
RCAL
HCBS
What is an analgesic? What are the 2 different types?
Medication that reduces pain
A) Opiates — codeine, morphine, Davon
B) Nonopiates — aspirin, Tylenol, Advil
What is an antacid? Give an example.
It neutralizes the acid in your stomach
Maalox
What is an anti anemic?
Treats anemia (low red blood cells) e.g. liver extract
What is an antibiotic? What are some examples?
Kills microorganisms in the body
Penicillin, doxycycline, Keflex
