What is Simplex, Half-Duplex, and Full Duplex with examples?
Simplex = A device can only either send or receive ( not both ).
- Mainframe to Monitor ( TV Set ).
Half Duplex = A device has both sending & Receiving capabilities, however can only do ( 1 ) at a time.
- Walkie Talkie
Full Duplex = A device has both sending & Receiving capabilities, can do both at once.
- Modern Cell Phones.
What are the two ( 2 ) types of connections in physical networks?
Point to Point = Single Dedicated connection between two devices.
Multipoint = Multiple devices sharing a same connection, such as the bus topology.
A LAN Network typically covers how many miles?
2 Miles.
Anything that covers more than 2 Miles, but is less than worldwide is typically considered a MAN Network.
What is a switched WAN & a point to point WAN?
A Switched WAN Network typically involves multiple switches joining multiple routers in order to create a larger WAN Network.
Point to Point WAN is a direct connection from one router to the next router.
What is another name for the connectionless service?
Datagram Service.
