Q

PT treatment for myositis ossificans

A
  • Once diagnosed, the body part is immediately immobilized for about 2 to 4 weeks
  • Following immobilization, gradually increased exercise is initiated to promote greater ROM
  • Initial treatment will focus on decreasing pain
  • Gently massaging the injured muscle for pain relief and to encourage mobility of the tissues and limb
  • Patient education to rest from aggravating activities and prescribing gentle stretching exercises to help preserve current ROM with assist to gain further range
  • Gentle strengthening exercises
