A
DM1 more common, DM2 rarer
DM1 at 20-40yrs with distal weakness
Myotonia (muscle spasms)
Facial weakness + muscle wasting give long haggard appearance

Mexiletine may help with myotonia

A

Similar to Duchenne’s but milder symptoms at later age with better prognosis

12-14yrs can’t puff out cheeks + raise arms above head
Ironed out expression
Up to 20% need wheelchair by 40yrs
