Myofascial Tissues Flashcards

1
Q

Perpendicular Strumming

A

purpose: to evaluate & treat for loss of muscle play and increased tone in myofascial tissues

more general for muscle play than perpendicular deformation

Q

Perpendicular Deformation

Transverse Deformation

A

purpose: to evaluate & treat the restrictions limiting muscle play (accessory mobility) of a muscle/ ST structure
treatment: deform muscle belly to end range (perpendicular pressure), spring test to determine efficiency

Q

Unilateral Parallel

Longitudinal Deformation

A

purpose: to evaluate & treat the restrictions of a muscle’s accessory mobility in relationship to surrounding structures
evaluation: angled pressure directed parallel to muscle belly / seam

Q

Causes of increased tone (6)

A
  • protective/reflex spasm
  • subconscious holding patterns (associated with emotional/mental response)
  • habitual patterns of misuse
  • neurological deficit
  • mechanical intra/inter fiber CT adherence
