Spread: soil, human, animals
Signs: invade only keratinized tissues (hair, skin, nails)
Disease: ring worm
Sporothrix
Subcutaneous; dimorphic
Spread: rose thorns, soil, vegetation
Signs: skin lesion, granulomatous ulcer at puncture site
Disease: sporotrichosis
Histoplasma capsulatum
Systemic (means inhalation by spores); dimorphic
Spread: bird or bat droppings
Sign: pulmonary infection signs
Disease: histoplasmosis
Blastomyces dermatidis
Systemic (means inhalation by spores)
Spread: spores in soil become airborne and disseminated
Signs: Rare ulcerated granuloma, mainly asymptomatic
Disease: blastomycosis
Candida
Oppurtunistic; yeast like
spread: normal flora on skin over grows; risk factor being immunocomp, IV
Signs: itching; white patches
Disease: thrush, yeast infection
Aspergillis
Oppurtunisitic; mold like
spread: inhalation of ubiquitous mold spores (i.e. construction sites)
Signs: mainly immunocompromised have infections such as CF pts
Disease: pneumonia
Pneumoncystis jiroveci
Opportunistic; yast like
Spread: risk factors in immunocomp like HIV
Signs: pulm sxs, pneumocytis
