spaghetti and meatball appearance. Type of commensal
Cryptococcus neoformans
encapsulated. Fried egg appearance in brain.
Affects lungs first. Only systemic mycoses that is NOT dimorphic
Blastomyces dermatitidis
Single budding. Figure 8 nucleus
Paracoccidioides brasiliensis
Multiple budding. Lesion on face.
Histoplasma capsulatum
Intracellular fungus. Fingerlike wall ornamentation (spore)
Candida
Can have mold/yeast form at 37 degrees. Commensal
Treatment: oral and vaginal: Nystatin or Clotrimazole - topically
systemic: amphoterivin, keto conazole - oral / IV
Aspergillus
Filamentous mold. Mainly caused by A. Fumigatus
A. Flavus and A. Parasitivus produce aflatoxins (family of carcinogenic toxins)
Pneumoncystis Tiroveci
Yeast-like. Occur in ppl with AIDS. Lacks ergosterol.
