Myasthenia Gravis Flashcards
grave’s disease
autoimmune disease affecting the neuromuscular transmission of impulses in the muscles of the body; neuromuscular disease
clinical manifestations of grave’s disease
diplopia, ptosis, masklike affect; weakness of laryngeal and pharyngeal muscles; worse case scenario- terminal respiratory stuff
cholinergic crisis for grave’s disease
too much medication triggers this due to an excess of anticholinesterase drugs… weakness 1 hour after ingestion
myasthenic crisis
too little medication… improves after IV anticholinesterase drugs
priority problems
ineffective airway clearance; risk for injury
nursing interventions for grave’s disease
ensure trach kit is available for possible myasthenic crisis; allow for rest periods (bedrest); stress can exacerbate symptoms; protect eyes; frequent health promotion teachings; encourage deep breathing/coughing (for muscle weakness)
