What is a mutation?

A change to the DNA base sequence which may affect the phenotype of an organism

What is a silent mutation?
A
The triplet codes for the same amino acid

What is a missense mutation?
A
The triplet codes for an entirely different amino acid

What is a nonsense mutation?
A
The triplet codes for stop codon (this stops the protein being synthesised)

A
A substitution mutation where a pyrimidine is swapped for a pyrimidine or a purine is swapped for a purine

A
A mutation where a pyrimidine is swapped for a purine or a purine is swapped for a pyrimidine
