Musuclar System Flashcards
What are the functions of muscles
Produces movement, stabilize joints, maintains posture, and generates heat
What are three types of muscular tissue
Skeletal, cardiac, and smooth muscle
What is skeletal muscle
Skeletal muscle is a striated muscle tissue, which is under the voluntary control of the somatic nervous system. Most skeletal muscles are attached to bones by bundles of collagen fibers known as tendons.
What are fascicles
Skeletal muscle fibers (cells) are arranged into bundles called fascicles. Fascicles are bound by connective tissue
What are the four coverings of connective tissue
Endomysium, perimysium, epimysium, and fascia
Where is the endomysium
It’s around single muscle fiber
Where is the perimysium
It is around a fascicle (bundle) of fibers
Where is the epimysium
It covers the entire skeletal muscle
Where is the fascia
It is on the outside of the epimysium, it is the hypodermis
