Trade routes were established as the community matured,ancient civilizations supported a thriving trade around the Mediterranean Sea and all trade routes.
Terraces
A method of growing crops alongside a hill, slows down erosion and water loss.
Mecca
Mecca is a city in the Sirat Mountains in western Saudi Arabia. Mecca is the holiest city in all of Islam.Muslims around the world turn toward this city to pray to Allah, the Muslim name for God. All devout Muslims aspire to make a pilgrimage, or hajj, to Mecca at least once in their lives.
Medina
Medina is a sacred city to Muslims,Medina soon became the administrative capital of a growing Islamic state until 661,when Damascus was proclaimed the new capital.
Oasis
An oasis is a fertile region of land in the middle of a desert supplied by a regular source of fresh water. The water supply is usually underground in a spring or a structure called an artesian well,Oases are very important to people who live in or near them and to those who travel through deserts.
Kaaba
The Kaaba, also spelled Ka’bah, is a cube-shaped shrine located in the center of the Great Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. It is the most sacred spot on Earth for Muslims, or people who follow the religion of Islam
Five Pillars of Islam
The Five Pillars of Islam are five duties that every Muslim is supposed to carry out. Muslims are people who practice Islam, and these duties were first described by Muhammad, the founder of Islam.
Sunnah
Sunnah, also known as Sunni Islam, is one of the two main branches of the religion of Islam. Its followers are known as Sunnites. The other main branch is Shi’a Islam, and its followers are known as Shiites. These two branches separated early in the history of Islam.
Qur’an
The Quran, also spelled Qu’ran and Koran, is the sacred scripture of Islam. Muslims, people who practice Islam, believe the Quran is the word of Allah, or God, which was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad through the archangel Gabriel.
Caliph
A caste system which arranges people in a society based on hereditary groups.
Caliphate
The caliphate was the Islamic state and its lands, which were ruled by a caliph, or successor to Muhammad.
