What is musical theatre
A theatre style that tells a story through singing, acting and dancing
What is a triple threat
A performer who is able to sing, dance and act all at an equal level
What are the components of the emotional staircase?
Speak - using dialogue to convey intentions
Sing - breaking into song when something happens that heightens the mood
Dance - communicating through body expressions and physical explosion
How must we act
With big gestures and facial expression so that the audience at the back can see
What must we do to warm up for singing
Articulation exercises - tongue twisters
Vocal warm ups - lip trills
How does breathing work
The air is created in the stomach, resonates on the throat and shaped in the mouth
Why is breathing important
It carries the voice. No air so the vocal chords cannot vibrate not allowing voice to be carried to the back with power
Why are physical warm ups important
Prepares the body and mind. Increases the range of motion and reduces the risk of injury
Why is movement important
Advances the plot, reveals more about the character and tells the story
