Chants, little variation. Some use of recorder, flute, some stringed plucking instruments, usually religious, Monophonic

1400-1600
What was the Renaissance Era know for?
Richer, more experimentation than medieval– centred in Italy – use of chorus, harmony, early brass and stringed instruments such as viola, guitar etc
When was the Baroque Era
1600-1750
What was the Baroque Era know for?
Much richer than renaissance, introduction of harpsichord – still centred in Italy, introduction of orchestra, woodwind, strings
When was the Classical Era
1750-1830
What was the Classical Era known for?
Move to Vienna, more sophistication, harpsichord replaced with Piano
When was the Romantic Era?
1830-1900
What was the Romantic Era known for?
Like Classical, focused on Vienna, greater sophistication
