What is the Whole-Tone Scale?

A

A scale that moves by whole steps. There are only six different notes, so one of the letter names does not appear in the scale.

How is a slur performed?

A

All the notes are smoothly connected. It is referred to as legato playing or singing.

On wind instruments, only the first note should be tongued.

On a string instrument, the group of notes should be played in one now.

On keyboard instruments, slurs indicated when to lift the hands.

How should slurs be written?

A

When all of the stems are in the same direction, draw the slur in the opposite side from that of the stems.

When the stem direction is mixed, draw the slur above the notes.
