What is the make up of a gamelan (tuning, rhythmic organization, etc) and how is gamelan viewed by Indonesian society?
Gamelan is an Indonesian instrumental ensemble made up of mostly metalophones. Uses hand played drums, can involve bamboo flutes and rebab. Has no standardized pitch, all instruments are tuned to each other. Uses cosmic rhythm cycle.
What is the social significance of Piob Mhor (in terms of affective memory and communication etc.)?
It is significant because bagpipes have a very strong, emotional, and powerful sound that has been and is still very often used at funerals and other situations to commemorate people. This is also significant to affective memory because when someone hears bagpipes, a majority of people will associate the sound with funerals and commemoration.
What is jinshan and how is it related to Muyu?
Jinshan is known as the “gold mountain” and can relate to Muyu because Muyu is songs about life, and people could write songs about the gold mountain and how they hoped to get gold from there and thus get money that way.
What is the Ud and what is its significance within middle eastern culture?
It brings health benefits to its players and listeners and it is associated with cosmological concepts (seasons and zodiac)

How has the concept of musical borrowing affected the Syrian Jewish Pizmon?
It could have effected it in several different ways. It depends on what type of melody was borrowed and where it was from, as well as what style of music it was, for the particular song.
How have modern neuroscientists used music to help various patients recover from lost memory?
They take certain songs from the persons past that they liked and listened to during a certain time in there life, this way it can bring back memories from that specific time.
